About
Robert Stewart, MD
I'm a physician specializing in General Psychiatry since 1980. I was born in Burundi, Africa as the son of medical missionaries. A graduate of Vanderbilt University (BA, Psychology), I earned an MD from the University of Louisville School of Medicine. A Medicine/Surgery internship in Birmingham, AL was followed by a residency in Psychiatry at Duke University Medical Center.
In the early 1980’s, I helped establish the Youth Treatment Services at Our Lady of Peace Hospital. For twelve years I was Medical Director of BHE's Center for Behavioral Health. Since 1998 my focus has been on the psychiatric care of mood and anxiety disorders in the outpatient practice which I've shared with my wife, Shari, since the late-nineties. For over forty years I've spoken widely on my professional love: the identification of and treatment of mood disorders.
